The aluminum cover is identical to legacy X and very well made, as is the plastic stack. The C spring does not appear hardened like Wahoo, but it is strong. Measured and tested with X2, which the description includes support for although it is the Zero design and not the parallel springs of original X. To use with X pedal, lockout C clip with 2mm hex head. Because the cleat does not engage beneath the bowtie like zero does, but spins instead of the C clip. This seems to work because lips of C spring engagement area do not prevent sliding into the X grooves. C clip thickness is close to the 2.25mm legacy X spring. Measurements showed it should work. The C spring wraps the pedal slots. Float is not slippery like X cleat. But even with hard effort I did not come unclipped. Initial test was a few miles, I did not see unusual wear to the X. In any case, since the plate is identical, and X springs are available at nextcleat, that leaves the plastic spacer plate which doesn’t get much wear in the cleat sandwich. So either way, this cleat is a fantastic value and we are fortunate these are available since Wahoo abandoned the lighter original design.
